Career

To be passionate about what one is doing for a living allows one to enjoy life. I know many people that aren't totally passionate about what they're doing, and it is very evident in their day today life. Someone very close to me tends to get stressed at work, and then later brings that stress about their loved ones. I however am hoping to be doing something I enjoy, and that is being a leader. I plan on being in charge of my own business, a spa, and I plan to achieve my goals by attending post-secondary school. In September of 2009 I will be attending Okanagan College in Kelowna for one year, and after that I will be attending UBCO for one year. Eventually, I want to attend UBC in Vancouver, and live wit my sister.

Cassandra's life.

I've known Cassandra all her life, and she is a perculiar character. When she was just a little girl she was often picked on by family (brothers, and cousins) and school mates. Could have been Karma catching up to her for being a bully in preshcool. Although she frequently went crying to her parents, she grew up to be a rather independent girl. In her elementary school years she was somewhat of an ugly ducking. This physical trait carried on till she was in highschool, and in those years she began to shake off the ugly duckling appearance, and now is a beautiful young woman. She is an emotion based person, and a very honest soul. She is the type of person who won't lie no matter what the situation is, and will act on what she picks up from other peoples "vibes." She comes off as an unapproachable type of person when you first meet her, but if you make it into her "good books," she can be very friendly. But if you don't make it into her "good books," you'll know right away. She doesn't hide opinions, or facts from other people, and if she can prove you wrong she will. Cassandra is somewhat of an antisocial, and this is mostly because she doesn't drink alcohol, and won't put herself into a posistion to do so. Her Tupa is a huge influence on her life, her Tupa(Louise Gabriel) is the reason she tries to be the best person she can be, and is the reason she quit drinking. Louise was so proud of Cassandra for being so involved in her community, and begining to contact/take on her roots, and culture. Canoeing is one of her passions, along with trying to play guitar. Guitar was introduced into her life by her "Papa," (Grandpa) he bought her her first guitar(which was electric), and accessories such as an amp, all the necessary wires, and lessons. Her Papa is a very important person in her life, and has always been encouraging and supportive in all the activities she partakes in. Canoeing entered her life in 2007, when her youth group was granted the opportunity to pull in one of the Okanagans traditional dug-out canoes. This has sparked a love for her and her canoe team, so much so that they raised money to buy their own canoe. They raised enough money to obtain their canoe, but the RCMP endowed them with a canoe, and trailor that they had gotten as a gift to the group. Because they have complete and total acess to their canoe they can practise whenever they please. In the Summer of '09 her canoe group is going to be taking part in two journeys, one of which will be on the Okanagan Lake from Vernon to Penticton. Their second journey will be across the water in Scotland on a stretch of the Orkney Islands. Cassandra is a very peculiar person, and it makes her very unique.

Synthesis.

The text "Superman's song," and "Watchmen," both have a commonality which is that neither Superman nor the superheros in "Watchmen" were getting paid, and that they were doing good deeds just for the good of the people. "Superman never made any money For saving the world from Solomon Grundy" and Rorchach never charged a fee when he rescued a women from being raped. His "family [was] all dead" but he didn't let that get in the way of his duties as Superman. Rorchach didn't have family, but didn't let that get in the way of his obligation as an opposition to evil. Superman believed in a just society, that protected the innocent and dealt with criminals and evil doers in a fair manner. Rorchach also believed in a just society that protected the innocent. However the criminals and evil doers were dealt what he believed they deserved. The text "Superman's Song" and the novel "Watchmen," have many commonalities such as the fact that they don't get paid, they act in what they believe, and that they act in the better interest of others.

Book Review

In the grapic novel, "Watchmen," there are many delightful aspects in which will be reviewed in this critical piece. The collaborative writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons joined once again as they had before, and completely blew their previous works out of the water. The "Watchmen," depicts very malicious images that not only catch the eye, but remarkably add to the story. The author Alan Moore does a marvelous job at connecting the story, and the context. This type of novel is not for the type of person who cannot follow complicated sequences, and multiple points of view. Also, a person interested in this book should have a vague idea of what happened during the Cold War. Not only are they many references to the war, but some Egyptian names. This novel somewhat makes one ponder about Superman, and how the ethics of some of the characters and his own are similiar on a small scale. This novel looks like a simple read, but it anything but.

Novel Research.

Alan Moore, author of many acclaimed comics, is a controversial man. Alan Moore is an anarchist, and worships a Roman snake diety names Glycon. He wrote the graphic comic, "Watchmen," which I am currently engulfed in. He's a very different type of writer because he was the first author to apply literary and formalist sensibilities to the mainstream of the comic book realm. This is evident in, "Watchmen," he created this comic in the interest of mature readers. Watchmen is non-linear and told from multiple points of view, it's also graphic, and vulgar. Although the content of the book may cause some people disgust, and disapproval, it displays the reality of life, and the goings-on. A large idea of the book is the cold war, and the behavior, and paranoid thoughts amongst the citizens. Alan Moore captures the raw, and unedited thoughts, and the backlash of all the commotion. Alan Moore could not have written the novel in a more superior way.

Indifference

In the short story, "The Lottery," and the speech, "Perils of Indifference," acts of violence and inhumanity are demonstrated greatly. They both have a common denominator, ordinary people commiting acts of atrocities, and an awareness of what is going on.

In the short story, "The Lottery," the villagers depict the violence that they partake in, as a tradition. A tradition is something that is done, often, once a year in celebration, or acceptance. In the small village that is protrayed their tradition is every June. 27, and the children have recently been dismissed from school. The village is seemingly normal on the surface, smiling faces, happy families, and an over all pride. But their tradition is a bizzare one indeed, and one that most people want to keep. "They do say,"..."that over in the north village they're talking of giving up the lottery."..."Pack of crazy fools,"..."listening to the young folks, nothing's good enough for them. Next thing you know they'll be wanting to go back to living in caves.." The families go in knowing that if the head of the household is chosen, that person, or someone from the family is going to die. They willingly put themselves and their loved ones up for a chance to die. It may have been a kind of Russian roulette, an adrenaline rush, perhaps an excuse to take stress, and anger out, or someone to take their sins in a type of sacrifice. The people in this village are seemingly normal on the surface, but every June. 27, they all take part in murdering one of their family members, neighbors, friends, or enemies just because it's a tradition.

The speech, "Perils of Indifference," by Elie Weisel also portrays the violence amongst the human society. He explains the problem of indifference is how easy it can be "Of course, indifference can be tempting, more than that -- seductive" The repetitiveness of it all is a major problem, "ordinary" human beings don't question their "superiors" requests/orders even if it's a violent one. Elie Weisel was a Holocaust survivor and witnessed indifference first hand. Not only does indifference create more pain, and sorrow, it can lead to the murder and the degrading handling of the body afterward. Indifference during the Holocaust cost many lives.

Indifference banishes people's hopes for change.

Top 3

Top 3 things every woman should judge a man by:

1)How does he behave around children, elders, women, and animals.
For me behavior around elders is my number one thought whenever there are elders present. I was raised to be respectful, considerate, gentle, polite, and understanding towards elders because my culture truly treasures them. If I notice anyone being disrespectful, rude, or inconsiderate towards any elderly person, I instantly lose respect, no matter the person. The same concept goes for women, because we believe they are the most powerful beings, children because they are the future, and animals, because they are connected to my culture, and provide companionship.

2)The way a woman is spoken to.
Being in a verbally abusive relationship is not fun. Women should not have to deal with being talked down to, and should awknowledge disrespect right away. Even if the abuse is not directed towards you, but another woman, such as his mother, sister, or even a woman in a customer service position; the abuse cannot be ignored. If he is harmful to any female, he is not a man; he's a bully.

3)The way he behaves when he thinks no one is watching him.
When a person thinks he or she is not being watched, is when they'll show their true selves. A good man is someone who picks up garbage when it's not his own, and holds doors for total strangers. You find out if someone is genuinely nice by watching them without their knowledge, because they're not trying to impress anyone.

I know my topic was kind of dull, but it's important to me for women to have standards about the relationships they form, and keep.
